About the Vice President of Fund Development position

Alpha has an ambitious goal of bringing Alpha to Everyone, Everywhere over the next 10 years and establishing a network of 500 hub churches around the world who are beacons of excellence in running Alpha. The Vice President of Development supports the mission of the organization by building a strong fundraising portfolio, by fully collaborating in setting the strategic vision of US and Global Advancement, and by providing leadership to development staff, and advancing the vision and mission of the ministry in the community at large. The Vice President of Development will direct the team to overall success by reaching goals for major and mid-level donor relationships, and will also personally manage a major donor/prospect caseload.

VP of Fund Development responsibilities are:

  • Reach increasing targets: responsible for securing the annual revenue targets required to meet the strategic ministry and fundraising goals

  • Design and implement a detailed, comprehensive, and effective strategic plan: continuously monitor and evaluate to ensure acceptable return on investment. Maintain and lift giving from mid-level donors, major donors/prospects, planned giving, and foundations

  • Build donor experiences: design and implement high quality donor centric engagement

  • Grow a caseload of major donors: include current major donors, lapsed, prospective and new major donors, foundations

  • Lead the U.S. development team: effectively encourage, mentor, and guide these colleagues in their work with a view toward fostering professional growth and achievement, a cooperative team spirit, and achieve a flourishing team culture utilizing BCWI.

  • Develop systems: in coordination with the COO & CFO, that maximize donor relationship support including gift acceptance, entry, receipt and acknowledgment systems

  • Monitor progress toward the Advancement team goals: manage the Pipeline of anticipated gifts and regularly communicate with the CEO and Global Chief Development Officer

  • Sit on the Alpha USA Executive team

  • Ongoing interaction with the Alpha USA CEO and participation in all Alpha USA staff involvement

  • Inform global strategic development, as a key member of the Global Fund Development Leadership team

  • Approximately 35% off-site travel

VP of Fund Development qualifications are:

  • Experienced leader, with extensive background at a senior level in US fund development, including people leadership

  • A strong track record in major donor development activities, including strategy development and personal donor management

  • Full alignment with the mission and values of Alpha, and ideally experience of running or participating in an Alpha course

  • A global mindset, ideally with experience of operating across countries and cultures

  • Organized and structured, with the ability to manage complexity across jurisdictions (e.g. regulation) and to undertake detailed business planning activities, in partnership with other functions such as finance and impact measurement

  • Strong stakeholder management skills to facilitate deep relationships with boards of directors, and across the global leadership team
